A region is not defined only by its residents. People who leave often retain family, professional and cultural ties. Those relationships deserve coverage that reaches beyond nostalgia or folklore.
The Liguri nel Mondo association describes itself as a volunteer-run social organisation with members in Liguria, elsewhere in Italy and abroad. Shared origins are one of its stated reasons for bringing people together.
Caruggio also wants to ask practical questions. What do people find when they return? How do skills and opportunities travel? What relationships remain with home towns? Our aim is to bring different experiences into conversation, keeping personal stories distinct from data and public policy.
